What Is Fumigation?

Fumigation is a termite control process in which we place a tent over your home or place of business and fill the air with a gaseous pesticide. This pesticide kills the pests that are hiding in your home. Depending on the extent of your infestation, fumigation can last anywhere from six hours to up to a week. Additionally, though we can tent an entire structure, we can also perform localized tenting and fumigation if the infestation is localized to a single spot. Tenting and fumigation should only be done by trained experts, such as those at Morales Exterminating Co.

Fumigation is a highly effective treatment method for existing infestations. However, it is not a preventative measure. Fumigation treats existing termite colonies that are active at the time of the treatment. Preventing future infestations requires other measures that our team is happy to help with.

Prepare for fumigation by removing the following things from your home:

  • Food: While you can store food in special bags and leave them in place during the fumigation, you may feel more comfortable moving your food and other consumable items to a different place while the treatment is happening. Remember that this includes pet food!
  • Pets: Remove your pets from your home before the fumigation takes place. Any pet – from goldfish to dogs – should be moved to a safe place away from the fumigation site.
  • House plants: If you are a plant parent, it is important that you protect your plants from the fumigant chemicals. Remove these items along with your pets!

After Fumigation

After our team has determined that the fumigant has dissipated enough, we’ll let you know when it’s safe to re-enter your home or place of business. You should not attempt to enter your property until we give you the all-clear.

As part of your duties as a homeowners’ association, it’s important that you adhere to the state laws which dictate termite control maintenance and prevention. Whether you’re responsible for termite control of a whole community or just the common areas within that community, termites can strike any structure.

Importantly, prevention is much easier than trying to eradicate a termite problem. Get ahead of the issue with termite prevention measures from Morales Exterminating Co. Our team of expert exterminators will evaluate your property and make recommendations for a termite control program that includes termite prevention. We understand that it’s important to you and your community to maintain a pest-free environment. Let us help you make that a reality!
